Onion Uthappam with Coconut Chutney



Uthappam is another famous south Indian recipe which is normally used as breakfast.
Here is the procedure for preparing delicious Onion Uthappam and  Coconut Chutney . 

Ingredients for Uthappam

Black Gram Dal (Urad dal): 250 Grams.
Boiled rice or normal rice : 500 Grams.
Salt to taste.
Onions: As per the requirement.
Green Chilly : 3 - 4 (Chopped)
Cumin seeds (Jeera) : 2 tea spoons
Tomato : 2 (finely chopped)
Cashew Nuts (To garnish)
Oil


Method


Wash and Soak rice and dal separately for few hours.(Approximately 5-6 hours)
Grind rice and dal separately, adding required quantity of water.
Mix the ground rice, dal and salt. Add little water and stir well to form a thick batter.
Keep it overnight for fermentation. 
Heat the Pan (Tawa) add oil 1 tsp and spread the Uthappam mixture in a thick layer on pan uniformly. Spread finely chopped onions, green chillies, tomato and Cumin seeds over the top and spread 1/2 tsp oil over the top. And heat on low flame till the bottom turns light brown and then overturn and cook on a slow flame till done.

Ingredients for Coconut Chutney

Coconut : 1 No
Green Chilly : 3
Red Chilly (Whole) : 2
Curry Leaves
Oil : 3 tea spoons
Mustard seeds :1/2 tea spoon
Cumin seeds :1 tsp
Chana Dal (Bengal Gram) : 1 tea spoon
Tamarind  : 25 Grams
Black Gram (Urad Dal) :1 tea spoon
Salt to Taste

Method

Grate the Coconut
Heat oil and fry grated Coconut, bengal gram(Chana Dal), Green chilli, Tamarind (without seeds) and grind all the Ingredients into paste using mixer.
Add salt to taste.
Take a fry pan heat 1 tsp oil and add curry leaves, cumin seeds, black gram dal, mustard seeds, red chillies and fry till brown. Now spread the mixture over the chutney and mix well.

Serve Uthappam with coconut chutney.
