Murrel fish also known as Snakehead fish or Channa is a fresh water fish widely available in Asian countries like India, China etc. In Telugu language the name of this fish is Erra Matta or Gidiselu.
Here's a simple Murrel fish curry recipe which is very tasty.
Ingredients
Murrel Fish : 500 gms
Onion : 2 (Cut into pieces)
Tomato : 2 (Cut into pieces)
Green Chillies : 3
Ginger, garlic paste : 2 tea spoons
Turmeric powder : 1/2 tea spoon
Curry Masala Powder : 2 tea spoons
Salt : As per taste
Oil : 2 table spoons
To marinate
Turmeric Powder : 1 tea spoon
Red Chilly Powder : 1 tea spoon
Salt : 1 tea spoon
Method
Clean (Remove the unwanted parts) and wash the fish
Marinate the fish with 1 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp red chilly powder, 1 tsp salt for 15 minutes
Heat oil in a karahi add onion and green chilly pieces, fry till onion turns into light pink color.
Add ginger, garlic paste and fry on slow flame for 2 minutes
Add turmeric powder, curry masala powder and salt (as per taste)
Add tomato pieces and fry for 3 minutes
Now add the marinated fish and gently stir fry on slow flame for 5 minutes.
Add water (enough to cover all the fish) and cook on high flame for 10 minutes.
Adjust gravy as per requirement.
Serve hot with rice
