When you are running short of vegetables or time, here's a simple tomato onion recipe which is very tasty and healthy and also easy to prepare with in no time.
It can also be used as a side dish in place of chutney along with Idli or Dosa.
Tomato : 2 large (Cut into pieces)
Onion : 2 medium (Cut into pieces)
Green chillies : 2 (Chopped)
Ginger : small piece (Finely Chopped)
Chana Dal(Bengal gram) : 1 tea spoon
Urad Dal (Black gram) : 1 tea spoon
Mustard seeds : 1 tea spoon
Cumin seeds : 1 tea spoon
Turmeric powder : 1 tea spoon
Curry Masala Powder : 2 tea spoon
Oil : 3 tea spoon
Salt: As per taste
Sugar : 1 tea spoon (Optional)
Heat oil in a pan add Mustard seeds, cumin seeds, chana dal (Bengal gram), urad dal (Black gram), curry leaves and fry till mustard starts splitting.
Add chopped onions, green chillies, ginger pieces and fry till onion turns light pink color
Add turmeric powder, Curry Masala Powder and salt mix well
Add tomato pieces and fry for 3 minutes
Now add water according to your gravy requirement, cover with a lid and cook till gravy become thick.
Add sugar (Optional) before serving.
Serve hot with rice.roti, idli or dosa
