Ulli Karam - Onion Red Chillies Chutney

Onion and red chillies chutney (Ulli karam) is a famous Andhra recipe which is used as a side dish along with South Indian breakfast items. It is also used in some curry recipes.


Onion : 5 (Big size)
Red Chillies : 4
Ginger : 1 inch piece
Tamarind : As per taste
Cumin seeds : 1 tsp
Curry leaves
Salt : As per taste
Oil : 2 tea spoon


Cut onion into big pieces
Heat oil in a pan fry onion, red chillies, tamarind, Ginger, cumin seeds, curry leaves till onion turns into light brown color and add salt.
Blend the above fried ingredients into slightly coarse paste.

Serve with Idli or dosa
