Vermicelli Upma - Semiya Upma

A simple upma recipe prepared with vermicelli which is called as Semiya Upma in Telugu. It's very simple and easy to prepare recipe in less time.


Vermicelli : 1 Cup
Water : 2 cups
Onion : 2 (Chopped)
Green Chillies : 4 (Slitted)
Tomato : 2 (Chopped)
Black gram (Urad Dal ) : 1 tea spoon
Bengal gram(Chana Dal) : 2 tea spoons
Mustard eeds : 1 tea spoon
Cumin seeds : 1 tea spoon
Cashew nuts : few
Curry leaves : few
Ghee (Clarified butter) : 2 tea spoons
Salt : as per taste
Oil : 1 table spoon


Heat ghee in a karahi/wok,  roast the vermicelli till it turns into light brown color and set aside.
Heat oil in a karahi add Black gram (Urad dal), Chana dal, Curry leaves, mustard & cumin seeds, fry till mustard starts splitting.
Add chopped onions and green chillies, fry till onion turns light pink in color.
Add cashew nuts
Add tomato pieces fry for 3 minutes.
Add salt as per taste and mix well.
Add 2 cups of water  and cover with a lid.
When water starts boiling add roasted vermicelli and mix well.
Cook on slow flame till done.
Serve hot with chutney or sauce.
