Chickpea Masala Curry

Chickpea Masala Curry famously known as Chole Masala or Chana Masala in India is a traditional Indian  curry recipe prepared with Chickpeas (Garbanzo beans) and various spices.
Hema's Kitchen brings you a delicious variation of Chana Masala Curry. In this recipe I've  used chickpea paste to produce a rich and tasty gravy. This masala curry is extremely tasty and very easy to prepare.


Chickpea (Kabuli Chana, Garbanzo Beans) : 1 and 1/2cup
Onions : 2 (Finely chopped)
Green chillies : 3 (Chopped)
Curry leaves : few
Garam masala : 1 tea spoon
Red chilli powder : 1tea spoon
Turmaric powder : 1 tea spoon
Garlic,ginger paste : 2 tea spoons
Chickpea pea paste : 1/2 cup
Chat masala : 1/2 tea spoon
Oil : 2 table spoons
salt to taste


Wash and soak the chickpeas overnight.
Add 1 tea spoon salt to one cup soaked chickpeas and pressure for 15 minutes.
Grind the remaining 1/2 cup soaked chickpeas into smooth paste and set aside.
Heat oil in a wok/Karahi, add chopped onions. green chilly, curry leaves and fry till onion turns into light brown in color.
Add ginger garlic paste and fry on low flame for 2 minutes.
Add chickpea paste and fry on low for 3 more minutes.
Add turmeric, red chilly, chat masala and garam masala powder, mix well
Add salt as per taste and fry on low flame for 2 more minutes.
Add pressure cooked chickpeas along with the water and cook until the gravy thickens.
Serve hot with rice or roti.

  6. This looks so delicious. I loved the idea of dahi vada chole chaat. I wonder why I never had this before. Must be so good.
