Chicken Horse-gram Stew

As I mentioned in my previous post "Horse gram soup (Ulava Kattu)" , horse gram belongs to lentil family and packed with many health benefits.
It makes a good combination with chicken. Here's is a very tasty and healthy stew recipe prepared with chicken and horse gram. This stew is very delicious and a must try for non-veg lovers.


Ingredients

Chicken : 500 gm
Horse gram : 1 cup
Onion : 2 (finely chopped)
Green chillies : 3 (Slit)
Tamarind juice : 1 cup
Bay leaves : 2
Cinnamon stick : 1 inch piece
Cloves : 4
Cardamom : 2
Mustard seeds : 1 tea spoon
Cumin seeds : 1 tea spoon
Turmeric powder : 1 tea spoon
Red chilly powder : 1 tea spoon
Curry masala powder : 1 tea spoon
Garam masala powder : 1 tea spoon
Coriander leaves : Few (for garnishing)
Salt to taste
Oil : 2 table spoons

Method

Wash and marinate chicken with 1 tea spoon turmeric powder, 1 tea spoon red chilly powder and 1 tea spoon salt for 15 minutes.
Boil the horse gram for 15 minutes
Grind the boiled horse gram into smooth paste and set aside.
Heat oil in a karahi/wok, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, bay leaves, cardamom, cinnamon sticks and cloves, fry till mustard starts splitting.
Add chopped onions, green chillies and fry on low flame for 2 minutes.
Add marinated chicken and fry on medium flame for 10 minutes (Stir fry at regular intervals to avoid sticking at the bottom).
Add curry masala powder, garam masala powder, salt and fry on low flame for two more minutes.
Add ground horse gram paste and mix well.
Add tamarind juice and cook on medium flame till done.
Delicious Chicken Horse-gram stew is ready to serve.
Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.

      Thanks for your reply. Horse gram is one of the lesser know legume. The scientific name of Horse gram is Marcotyloma Uniflorum. You can have more info here on wiki. I'm not sure about the availability of this beans in Australia. Have a gr8 day.
