Uthappam is a famous South Indian breakfast item prepared with Black gram (Urad dal) batter, which is normally used for making Idli.
It's very tasty and served with either Chutney or Sambhar. Here's a very delicious kids friendly recipe "Dry fruit uthappam" prepared with grated coconut, healthy nuts and dry fruits.
Ingredients (For 2 pieces)

Idli batter : 1 cup
Jaggery : 1/4 cup
Grated coconut : 1 table spoon
Almonds : 6
Cashew nuts : 6
Raisins : 12
Tutti frutti : 1 table spoon
Ghee : 2 table spoons
Method (To make Idli batter)
Soak 1 cup black gram dal and 2 cups idli rava in water separatesly for 5-6 hours
Grind the soaked urad dal into smooth paste
Squeeze the excess water from idly rave and add it to the ground dal
Add salt and make a thick smooth batter, keep over night for fermentation.
(For making Dry Fruit Uthappam)
Add jaggery to the fermented Idli batter and mix well
Heat a tawa/pan, apply ghee and spread Idli batter in round shape as shown in the picture.
Sprinkle chopped dry fruits, grated coconut and tutti frutti on the spread Uthappam as shown in the picture.
Cook on low flame for five minutes.
Turn it to the other side. apply little ghee and cook on low flame for five more minutes.
Delicious "Dry fruit uthappam" is ready to serve.
Serve hot with butter and jam.
