Raw Mango Dal - Pappu Mamidikaya

Pappu Mamidikaya - Raw Mango Dal is one of Andhra's popular recipe which is prepared with Toor dal and Raw mangoes. It's a seasonal recipe and normally prepared during mangoes season. Every year on the occasion of Telugu New year's day (Ugadi),  We used to prepare this healthy, tangy and tasty dal recipe.


Toor dal (Kandi Pappu) : 1 cup
Raw mango : 1
Turmeric powder : 1 tea spoon
Salt to taste

For seasoning

Onion : 1 (Large, finely chopped)
Garlic cloves : 6
Red chillies : 3 (Whole)
Black gram : 1 tea spoon
Cumin seeds : 1 tea spoon
Mustard seeds : 1 tea spoon
Curry leaves : few
Oil : 1 table spoon


Wash the Toor Dal and set aside.
Peel the skin off the raw mango and cut into small pieces'
Pressure cook the Toor dal, raw mango pieces, turmeric powder and salt as per taste for 10 minutes.
Heat oil in a wok/karahi, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, black gram, red chillies, garlic cloves, curry leaves, chopped onion and fry till mustard starts splitting. 
Add this seasoning to the pressure cooked dal and mango, mix well.
Delicious Raw Mango Dal is ready for serve. 
Serve hot with rice or roti.
