Sorrel Leaves Garlic Chutney - Gongura Pachadi

Sorrel leaves (Gongura) are packed with many useful vitamins and minerals including Calcium, Vitamin C, riboflavin, niacin etc. They contain powerful antioxidants known as flavonoids which are helpful to fight cancer and also improve immune system.
Sorrel leaves are used widely in Andhra cuisine to prepare many delicious recipes. Gongura Pappu, Mamsam Gongura, Chicken Gongura, Gongura Chutney are some of the famous dishes prepared with sorrel leaves in Andhra. Today I'm gonna share Sorrel leaves and Garlic chutney recipe which is very tasty and easy to prepare. 


Sorrel leaves (Gongura) : 2 bunch
Red chilies : 6
Garlic pods : 4
Coriander seeds (dhania) : 2 teaspoons
Fenugreek seeds (methi) : 1/2 teaspoon
Cumin seeds : 1teaspoon
Oil : 2 table spoon
Salt to taste


Mustard seeds : 1teaspoon 
Black gram dal : 1 teaspoon
Bengal gram dal : 1 teaspoon
Red chilies : 2
Curry leaves : few
Garlic pods : 4


Heat oil in a pan add sorrel leaves and fry  for 10 minutes on low flame.
Heat oil in another pan add red chilies, garlic pods, coriander seeds, fenugreek seeds, cumin seeds and fry on low flame for 2 minutes.
Grind the above ingredients along with sorrel leaves into coarse paste.


Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds, black gram dal, bengal gram dal, redchilies, garlic pods and curry leaves fry till mustard starts splitting.
Now add ground sorrel leaves paste to it and mix well.
Serve as a side dish with rice, roti, idli or dosa.
