Barley Masala Drink

Barley is a wonderful cereal grain with amazing health benefits. It belongs to grass family and a major cereal grain apart from wheat. This grain is a very rich source of healthy fiber and protein. This is used to treat common throat infection like tonsils, cough and pharyngitis. Regular consumption of barley water helps reduce the wrinkles and fair up skin complexion. It helps as a cooling agent and reduce burning sensation in the stomach. Barley water is one of the best summer refreshing drink as it helps to quench your thirst and a very healthy substitute to aerated drinks. Regular consumption of this water helps in weight loss.

Hema;s Kitchen brings you a very special and extremely healthy Barley Masala Drink. I added a little twist to make it even more healthier and much tastier by adding ginger, lemon, black pepper and cumin powder to this healthy water. 

Ingredients

Barley : 1 cup
Ginger : 1 tea spoon (finely grated)
Black pepper powder : 1 tea spoon
Cumin powder : 1 tea spoon
Lemon juice :1 tea spoon
Water : 10 cups
Mint leaves : few
Salt to taste

Method 

Wash the barley and keep aside.
Boil the water in a vessel add barley and grated ginger to it.
Cook till barley turns soft and turn off the flame.
When the stock is cooled add black pepper powder, salt, cumin powder and lemon juice.
Garnish with mint leaves.
Serve either chilled or at room temperature.
