Tomato Daniyala Rasam

Rasam,is part of traditional meal of South India which is taken as second course in a south Indian meal. It helps in digestion of food. Normally it is prepared with tamarind. Here is a simple recipe with slight variation replacing tamarind with tomato by adding coriander powder.

Ingredients :

Tomatoes : 4
Coriander seeds : 2 table spoons
Green chillies : 2
Coriander leaves : few
Garlic pods : 4
Ginger : 1 inch piece
Turmeric powder : 1 tea spoon
Red chillies : 2
Curry leaves : few
Mustard seeds : 1 tea spoon
Cumin seeds : 1 tea spoon
Salt to taste
Oil : 3 tea spoons

Method :

Grind tomatoes into smooth paste and keep aside.
Grind coriander seeds, garlic and ginger into fine powder.
Take a Vessel, add tomato paste,1 1/2 cup of water, salt, green chillies, coriander leaves and turmeric powder, boil the mixture for 2 minutes on low flame.
Now add coriander, garlic and ginger powder into above mixture and let boil for 5 minutes  on low flame.
Heat oil in a pan add Red chillies, mustard seeds, cumin seeds and curry leaves fry till mustard seeds starts splitting. Pour the above mixture.
Serve hot with Rice.
