Pesara Pappu Upma

Another version of Hema's kitchen "pesara pappu upma". It is very tasty and protein packed breakfast recipe, which is prepared with moong dal (pesara pappu).


Split green gram dal (moong dal) : 1 cup
Onions : 2 (chopped)
Green chillies : 3 
Curry leaves : few
Ginger : 1 inch piece (finely chopped)
Black gram dal : 2 tea spoons
Mustard seeds : 2 tea spoons
Cumin seeds : 1 tea spoon
Cashew nuts : few 
Coriander leaves : few
Peanuts : few
Lemon juice : 3 tea spoons
Oil : 1 table spoon
Salt to taste

Method :

Soak moong dal (split green gram dal ) for 2 hours
Grind the soaked moong dal coarsely and make tight batter by adding little salt and water.
Prepare  idlis using idli cooker, let it cool for some time.
Crumble the idlis coarsely using hands.
Heat oil in a pan add cashew nuts, black gram dal, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, peanuts fry till mustard starts splitting.
Add onions, green chillies, curry leaves, ginger pieces and fry till onions turns light brown.
Add crumbled idlis into above mixture and mix well.
Add salt, lemon juice and coriander leaves, mix well.
Pesara pappu upma is ready to serve.
Serve hot with coconut chutney or tomato sauce.
