Mamsam Gongura - Mutton Red Sorrel Leaves Curry

Mamsam gongura (mutton red sorrel leaves curry) is a famous Andhra non veg recipe. Which is prepared with mutton and red sorrel leaves. Red sorrel leaves makes very good combination with mutton and it is slightly tangy and very tasty dish.


Mutton : 500 grms
Red sorrel leaves : 3 bunches
Onions : 4 ( Finely chopped)
Green chillies : 3
Curry masala powder : 2 tea spoons
Garam masala powder : 2 tea spoons
Cinnamon stick : 11/2 inch piece
Bay leaves : 2
Ginger & garlic paste : 2 tea spoons
Tomato : 1(chopped)
Turmeric powder : 1 tea spoon
Oil : 1 table spoon
Salt to taste

Method : 

Wash and marinate mutton with turmeric powder, salt and curry masala powder for 1/2 hour.
Heat oil in a pressure cooker add onions, green chillies, bay leaves and fry till onions turns brown.
Add marinated mutton, ginger & garlic paste and fry for 10 minutes on low flame.
Add Garam masala powder and tomato pieces and mix well.
Add water and cover with a lid and cook for 5 to 6 whistles.
Wash the sorrel leaves.
Take vessel add sorrel leaves, cinnamon stick, turmeric powder, little water and cook till sorrel leaves become tender.
Now add above cooked mutton and cook on low flame till the gravy thickens.
Delicious mamsam gongura is ready to serve.
Serve hot with Rice or Roti.
