Mamsam Aakakarakaya Kura

Teasel gourd makes a good combo with goat meat (mutton). Here is a delicious protein curry prepared with Mutton and healthy teasel gourds from Hema's Kitchen 

Ingredients :

Mutton (mamsam) : 1/2 kg
Teasel gourd (aakakarakayalu) : 4 (cut into big pieces)
Onions : 3 (finely chopped)
Tomatoes : 2 (cut into medium size pieces)
Green chilies : 4
Cinnamon stick : 2 (1 inch pieces)
Turmeric powder : 1/2 tea spoon
Red chilly powder : 2 tea spoons
Ginger & garlic paste : 2 tea spoons
Garam masala powder : 1 tea spoon
Mutton masala powder : 2 tea spoons
Oil : 2 table spoons
Salt to taste

Method :

Wash the mutton under running water thoroughly.
Add turmeric powder, red chilly powder, salt, ginger & garlic paste to the mutton, mix well and marinate for 10 minutes.
Heat oil in a deep bottomed pan add cinnamon sticks, onions, green chilies and fry till onions turn light brown.
Add marinated mutton and fry for 5 minutes on low flame.
Add tomato pieces cook till the tomatoes are soft, once the water from the mutton dries add garam masala powder, mutton masala powder and mix well.
Now add sufficient water and cover the vessel with a lid cook on low flame for 10 minutes.
Add teasel gourd pieces and cook till the teasel gourd pieces are soft.
Mutton teasel gourd curry is ready to serve.
Serve hot with a rice or roti
